203. Shoot a handgun
May 20th, 2012
Despite my miliary career, my only experiences with a handgun are outside the military. My first time shooting was with a guy I was interested in at the time. Naturally I try recruiting everyone I know to help my bucketlist cause, so after learning he had an avid handle on all things weapondry - crossing this item off the list was a piece of cake.
He taught me the basic holding position and stance when firing a pistol, then shot at clay pigeons about 10-20 feet away. I wasn't too bad! (But it was close range so...) We also shot an assortment of various rifles. I wish I could remember which kind, but it was about 3 1/2 years ago, so that's not happening. It was fantastic experience though!
I will say this however, it is NOT like riding a bike. I went shooting later on (the next year I think?), and I lost most of what was priorly taught to me. My goal is to buy my own gun shortly, and get a license and a permit. I want to become highly trained and able to protect myself should a needed situation ever arise. Yes, carrying is necessary in the hands of law-adibing citizens to help defend ourselves and others around us.
