#20: Send Parents on Vacation

Christmas 2016/ June 2017

Maybe it's because of my love for travel, but it's always been a dream of mine to send my parents on vacation. In the past few years my mom had talked about wanting to go Glacier National Park.  I knew I wanted to help fulfill her dream.  However, it wasn't until I deployed that I finally had enough disposable income to help them travel.

It took a bit of research to finally figure out how to gift them with travel opportunities. I looked into cruises to Alaska (a place my dad has always wanted to go to).  I looked into inclusive resorts and other various packages.  The only problem with it all was that everything had to be bought with a set date.  That just wouldn't work for my parents.  The only option was to give them personalized gifts cards they could use where ever and whenever they pleased.  THEY LOVED IT.

Mom and Dad took a two week vacation through the Dakotas into Montana and Idaho.  They hiked, went to a few National Parks (3 I think?), saw a show or two, visited friends and family. My mom went on a rope challenge course LIKE A BOSS!  She's my hero sometimes. The biggest "but" of the trip (there's always a "but") was too much snow in Glacier National Park, they couldn't go all the way into the park. SO Sad :( Despite that, I'm so glad they had such a good time overall, it seemed to be providence.  Not a month later, my dad found out he had cancer for the 5th time.  God has some crazy timing.
